The divine nature

Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature (2Pet 1:4)

The “Divine Nature” as mentioned in our opening verse is referring to the nature and lifestyle of God. It is telling us that we have been granted access to walk in and partake of that nature. Glory be to God! that is very exciting, but have we ever considered what that divine nature is?

All throughout the bible we read descriptions of who God is and what he is like, and one aspect that stands out the most is Love. You can’t separate God from love, because he is the embodiment of Love (1John 4:8). Whatever he does, he does it out of love. That’s why we read about Jesus being compelled by compassion to heal the sick and minster to people when he saw their hurt. He always had a soft spot for people, and as he was about to depart, he charged his disciples to love one another. Love is so important to God, and he wants it to be important to us as well.

The good news is God knows that loving other would be hard for us if he simply commanded us to do so. That’s why he also gave us the necessary empowerment to fulfill it. When the bible says that we are partakers of the divine nature, it means we have now been granted the ability to love unconditionally like our father. The bible also says that the love of God is poured out in our hearts by the Holy spirit (Rom 5:5). So as Christians, love is the way we operate by default. We don’t struggle to love anyone no matter what they might have done to us, because the love of God in us causes us to overlook every wrong thing done to us. It only requires us to yield to it, and it’ll do the rest. So today I encourage you to bless some people and let them encounter the love of God through you.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love (ESV Gal 5:6)
